Playlist delete function must NOT depend on current playlist position (for true multi-user environment).

Henry, I am summing-up the biggest problem of the last "features request" thread in a new thread, so we can discuss here some solutions (Clay, do you hear?)

My suggestion here again:
BrowseAMP generates the playlist delete link parameters. Add one more that will be the file's checksum. Something unique that is calculated from the filename, like a CRC of the filename.
Now BrowseAMP can get the request and see if the playlist position number and the CRC of the filename of the song in that position are the same.
Only then do the song removal.

And something new:
Lock the current song to be not-deletable!

[email protected]
http://www.saxtus.gr/

I'll change the song management and I'm gonna use CRC32 on the filename+path to identify a song.

Unfortunately I don't have enough time to work on that before next weekend. So please stand by...

Locking a file is also a good idea. But why not use privileges management for this?

[email protected]
http://www.browseamp.com

Henry, please give me instruction of how to lock only the current playing file using the privileges manager and leaving others to be deletable.

Thank you.

[email protected]
http://www.saxtus.gr/

Yes you're right! It is not yet possible to lock a single song.

I can add a lock button to the playlist but that won't make it faster and clear to use and of course requires the coming soon improved playlist management incl. CRC32.

[email protected]
http://www.browseamp.com

Henry, I mean to block the current playing song NOT to be removed.

Why? Because if the current playlist song is deleted from the playlist by a mistake, WinAMP gets confused and probably skips the next song.

If the player is in stop mode, then the current file can be deleted. This is my suggestion!

Michael.

[email protected]
http://www.saxtus.gr/

Ok, that makes it much easier. I just look if the current playing song is to be deleted. If yes then I skip to the next song before deleting this song.

[email protected]
http://www.browseamp.com

Henry, I had a better thought: Don't let it to be deleted at all!
Many times I removed the current playlist song by mistake. If I remove the previous or the next song, it doesn't matter because the previous song is already played and the next song can be always added again, but if the current song has been deleted then if you apply this change at BrowseAMP, the playback of the current song will abort -- this must be avoided.

Just don't let it to be deleted at all! You can make it optional if you want, but I think that all people will have it enabled.

If user ask to remove song 4 and the current playing song is 4, ignore that command.

Michael.

[email protected]
http://www.saxtus.gr/

I don't know if all users want that restriction. For me it's ok to remove the current song from playlist.

More comments on that?

[email protected]
http://www.browseamp.com
