Hello! Here are some nice things for your great plug-in:<BR><BR>- Guest support (non-authenticated users). Can be implemented as a non-deletable user in the user management screen.<BR><BR>- Read-only mode for guests (non-authenticated users) and/or for specific users. They can't hurt the registry and they can't browse the files.<BR><BR>- Song re-ordering (up/down arrows next of each song to move it before/after previous/next song)<BR><BR>- Automatically remove played songs from WinAMP's playlist<BR><BR>- Read-only option for playlist only (for guests and/or specific users). Users can add songs to the end but can't change the playlist in any way.<BR><BR>- Remember previous volume position (from the last time the plug-in closed).<BR><BR>- I know that you can't read curent audio volume from WinAmp, but is there a way to change system's volume instead of WinAMP's volume (as an option)<BR><BR>- A small list of the last "x" actions (can be controlled by the plug-in's options) made by users, potitioned in the main page (index2) with an optional link to explode that list (i.e. just jump to an only-log page). Example:<BR>- User BEN added EXODUS.MP3 to the playlist<BR>- User ANNIE changed the volume to 43% (previous potition: 50%)<BR>etc...<BR><BR>For a better BrowseAmp!!!<BR>(if I think up more features, I will reply here - tell me if you need me as a beta tester)<BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.saxtus.gr/">http://www.saxtus.gr/</a>

Your suggestions make sense!<BR><BR>I'm actually changing some things in user management and after that I'll start with your items above even though some of them may be difficult..<BR><BR>Why don't you create some cool skins during that time. I'm still planning a skin-download-section but I did't get a lot of skins yet. <IMG SRC="images/icon_frown.gif"><BR><BR>thankx for using BrowseAmp!<BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.uni-ulm.de/~s_hthasl/">http://www.uni-ulm.de/~s_hthasl/</a>

Why don't you do only the easy stuff and leave the time-consuming when you don't have something to do? <IMG SRC="images/icon_smile.gif"><BR><BR>Some more easy-to-implement features:<BR><BR>- Display under the song timer, the remaining time! (very useful)<BR><BR>- Under the playlist put the playlist's total time<BR><BR>- Color different the files that are in the current playlist when we are browsing them<BR><BR><BR>And a hard one:<BR><BR>- Search function to the browse section (currently searching is implement only for the playlist)<BR><BR>----------<BR><BR>But if you are going for a total redesign I strongly suggest you a 2-frame page. Top part always display the current song, controls, timer etc (auto-refresh) and the bottom the rest (playlist, browse, options etc.), but only the playlist will be auto-refresh, not the browsing neither the options. When we have too many songs, the browsing function takes too long (and the refreshing is too crucial because of the current song info is in the same page and it MUST be updated). But if you have it in another frame, then... you get the point.<BR><BR>About skins now:<BR>I don't believe that skins are useful, I always use the "base" skin - no extra graphics and thing that make the refreshing of the page to take long (the "server" is an old Pentium 200MHz and it has already hard time decoding MP3s and OGGs... <IMG SRC="images/icon_smile.gif"><BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.saxtus.gr/">http://www.saxtus.gr/</a>

UPDATE<BR>------<BR><BR>Please make an addition to your "browser" and "playlist" tags:<BR>2 more options to allow a skin-maker to overide defaults and make it's own table style.<BR>Why two? One for normal lines and one for highlighted lines.<BR>This way you maintain backwards compatibility and at the same time allow more complex skins.<BR><BR>Here is an example:<BR><BR>(I was unable to paste here my example because I keep getting an error from the asn forum that maximum word chars is 50 -- here you will find the example temporarily, please copy it and replace this paragraph with it -- <a href="http://www.saxtus.gr/browseampexample.txt" target="_blank">http://www.saxtus.gr/browseampexample.txt</a>)<BR>(No because all tables will be scrambled, sorry (I just tried...), Henry)<BR><BR><BR>If you managed to do it I will !try! to build the low-bandwidth frames-skin I have in mind... <IMG SRC="images/icon_wink.gif"><BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.saxtus.gr/">http://www.saxtus.gr/</a>

Requests cont'ed:<BR>-----------------<BR><BR>1) Instead of specifing the charset on the skin (e.g. "iso-8859-1"), I think it will be better to make a new option and force skin makers to add new tag after "charset="<BR><BR>2) To use only 4 html files for skin, I think it's too hard for skins to move beyond of what you expecting. Please expand your specifications and allow any files. For example: using "controls.html?incvol=16" URL as link within the "base" skin, will increase the volume and load "base_controls.html"<BR><BR>3) Trash can icon must be moved !BEFORE! the track time (at the same cell but... reversed)<BR><BR>4) If and when the trash can icon must be removed (i.e. at all tracks, at no tracks, at passed tracks) I think must be selectable for each user seperate and NOT at the skin <IMG SRC="images/icon_smile.gif"><BR><BR>When I think more features, I will reply here...<BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.saxtus.gr/">http://www.saxtus.gr/</a>

Henry, my skin is almost completed and I found the opportunity to sum-up the three most important features (most important first):<BR><BR>1) Playlist delete function must NOT depend on current playlist position (for true multi-user environment).<BR><BR>2) Current directory must be different for each user because if more than one user is on-line there is a multi-user chaos!<BR><BR>3) Song re-ordering: up/down arrows, next to each song number, to move it before/after previous/next song (also current playlist position independent like above).<BR><BR>Happy programming...<BR><BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.saxtus.gr/">http://www.saxtus.gr/</a>

I want to vote for the "remove song from playlist". I find WinAmp's "random" to be very bad ... same song gets played quite often ... sometimes almost back-to-back.<BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href=""></a>

Please don't <IMG SRC="images/icon_cry.gif"> !<BR><BR>Problem: the only thing Winamp wants when removing a file from the current playlist IS it's position in the playlist. Therefore I have to figure out something completely different to delete this song AND keep data consistent.<BR><BR>Any ideas?<BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.browseamp.com">http://www.browseamp.com</a>

@Henry:<BR><BR>Ideas? Yep!<BR>BrowseAMP generates the playlist delete link parameters. Add one more that will be the file's checksum. Something unique that is calculated from the filename, like a CRC of the filename.<BR>Now BrowseAMP can get the request and see if the playlist position number and the CRC of the filename of the song in that position are the same.<BR>Only then do the song removal.<BR><BR>Now about the other thing... When we are going to have seperate current directory for each user? It is too dificult to keep the current dir along with the prmitted hours/days?<BR>I am not asking cookies, just update the ini on each directory change.<BR><BR>Also try to include in the "add to playlist" link, the full relative path from the point of the starting dir of each file that is in subdirectories, so it can work even when user change current directory.<BR><BR>Are you dizzy yet? If not, ask me for more ideas, at some point you will get dizzy... <IMG SRC="images/icon_smile.gif"><BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.saxtus.gr/">http://www.saxtus.gr/</a>

It is so difficult to build a cache that keeps seperate current directories for each authenticated user? <IMG SRC="images/icon_cry.gif"><BR><BR><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a><BR><a href="http://www.saxtus.gr/">http://www.saxtus.gr/</a>
