Thanks guys for all the work ... too bad WinAmp's function doesn't get the information for WMA's

It's a little strange because the Windows properities for the files show all the information correctly for both formats. I guess Microsoft knows more about MP3's than people give them credit for :)

I did find a WMA/MP3 converter and when I convert the file to MP3 it displays alright (The files are also 3 times as large  :o

I think we can stop this thread unless someone has a great idea how to get the metadata information (album/date/etc.) from WMA's.

Thanks Azimuth ... for awhile I thought I might be the only person using WMS's  ;)

In a related item I'd like to return the year the album was created from the tag info. I've tried using the #Metadata function with "year" and "date" with no success. What are the options for #Metadata and what format is the information returned in?

Thanks - Clay

P.S. I assume #Metadata is a core BrowseAmp function so it cannot be modified or enhanced by the skin. Is this assumption correct? In other words if there are bugs or enhancements to this function Henry has to make the change.

I've done a little research on this problem and it appears that the #Metadata function is returning an  empty string for the "album" option when accessing WMA files.

Has anyone else noticed this or is it unique to my environment? BTW ... most of my WMA tracks were ripped with MS Media Player version 7 or 8. All of the information listed in the Windows properities seems accurate for both MP3 and WMA files.

Any tools that I can use easily to do more investigation of actual file differences? A good tag display program would help ... I've looked for a couple but haven't found one that works well on both formats.

This question might show my poor understanding of music files ... here goes.

I've noticed that in the BA 2.04 extended skin the album title displays under the song title IF it is an MP3 files BUT NOT if it is a WMA file (the information exists in the properties of both formats). This is a very cool feature but is there anything I can do to get the title to display for WMA's?

I've looked through help files and some of the actual HTML and can't find anything. Is the album  stored in different places depending on format?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

You "sound" a little stressed, my friend ... take it easy your new work is exciting so we all get involved in pointing out little "problems".

My comments are just thoughts to help the cause. I think you are right by building a "todo" list which can prioritize bugs over enhancements but that's hard to separate sometines. I'll start putting together a short list and post it in the next few days.

Thanks again for your hard work.

Henry ... I understand what you are saying but please tell me how to reenable the refresh. I use the browser page most of the time and it is very strange to have it showing old information. Can't it only update at the end of the track (like the playlist seems to do)?

Thanks - Clay

I'm starting to use the "add random track" feature more ... just to mix up the music. But I realize that there are some directories that I really don't want to pick from (e.g. Christmas songs in July).

How about an .ini file parameter to exclude directories from this feature?

Henry ... BA 2.04 ROCKS!

I've noticed a couple of things that you might want to change. As you can tell I use the Browser window a lot (most of the time).

1. When you use the Browser screen and scroll to the bottom of the right side (browser) frame it scrolls back up to the bottom of the list (rather than staying all the way at the bottom). This is very annoying.

2. The playlist should resize when the frame is widened. The brower side resizes somewhat but could use a little work too.

Thanks a bunch for the new functionality!

Clay

P.S. I think there might be a problem displaying the correct "playing" track when in the browser window ... I haven't replicated it but it seems to display old track information after the track changes.

That fixed it! Great feature. I guess I just grabbed a copy at the wrong minute :-p

I really like the new extended skin ... it seems to replace the old true Saxtus Skin that has server me so well over the last year ... I'm a little sad it see it go  :(

Thanks - Clay

P.S. In terms of finding Album art I have most of mine from CCDB ripped CD's. I'm also looking around for other sources.

Hello Henry ... Long time no talk.

I've been very happy with the old version (along with Saxtus skin)  but it looks like you have a great version with 2.04! Congratulations.

I'll add some comments in the future ... I hope all is well with you.

Take Care - Clay

I found out what it was ... to play WMA you need an OLDER version of the in_wm.dll that has abuild date of 2/16/02.  I forgot that I had to this months ago when I first installed WinAmp & BrowseAmp.

I've rebuilt my PC that runs WinAmp/BrowseAmp and I'm having a very strange problem. It isn't a BrowseAmp problem but you guys know more about WinAmp than I do and I can't find any solution on the WinAmp website ... here goes.

Whenever I try to play a WMA format album WinAmp tries to read each file and then skips them. The Display in WinAmp (and BrowseAmp) show blank title entries for most of the tracks (first 6). Then as WinAmp skips over the tracks the other titles go to blank as well.

It must be something dumb on my part but I'm stuck  :(

When I rebuilt XP it loaded Windows Media Player 9 ... could there be a codec conflict of some sort?

P.S. My mp3's play fine.

I loaded WinAmp and BrowseAmp on my laptop to take on vacation. I copy music onto a DVD and when I insert it in my laptop I can get to it with WinAmp and choose anything I want ... works great!

When I start BrowseAmp I see the drive in the browser but it won't browse the directory. I've configured BrowseAmp to allow browsing other dives in the root directory but I still can't get to the D: drive.  :(

Thoughts?

Clay

P.S. I seem to have it working but it required my to turn on user management. Does it make sense that user management should be required?

Back to the initial topic ... In the last two days I've had BrowseAmp stop responding again

Yesterday it was "gone" for about two hours and then came back ... in the meantime I can access other web services running on my machine just not BrowseAmp. Today it stopped about an hour ago and I haven't gotten control back yet. I predict it will start answering in another hour, or so, very strange.

Have you had any other thoughts on this problem? I haven't seen anyone else report the problem.

I still think a way to tell BrowseAmp to use another web server may eliminate ICS as the possible source of the problem ... that's all I can think of  :(

Take care ... I'll be back online in a week. (I might have connectivity where I'm going but I'm not sure)

P.S. Just as I thought ... about an hour later I have full access to BrowseAmp again.
